Job Description
The Director of Quality Schools (DQS) is responsible for overseeing the tracking, forecasting, and increasing the number of students being served in quality schools (quality seats) in Oklahoma City. The DQS will work closely with public school leaders, board members, and other stakeholders to advance the goals of the organization.
Overall Job Responsibilities
The Director of Quality Schools will be responsible for the following:
Lead Strategic Growth of Quality Schools: Design, implement, and refine a comprehensive strategy to increase the number of students attending high-quality public schools in Oklahoma City. Drive the expansion of quality school options through collaboration, innovation, and rigorous performance tracking to meet the evolving needs of students and families.Implement strategy for increasing the number of students attending high quality public schools in Oklahoma City.
Provide Expert Advisory Support to School Leaders and Stakeholders: Serve as a trusted advisor to public school leaders, board members, and key stakeholders by offering evidence-based guidance on best practices for school improvement, leadership development, and resource optimization. Identify scalable, high-impact solutions to the challenges faced by schools across the district.
Foster Collaborative Partnerships Across the Education Ecosystem: Build and nurture strategic, long-term relationships with a wide range of education stakeholders, including district leaders, charter school leaders, community organizations, policymakers, and philanthropic partners. Work in close partnership with these groups to align efforts and resources toward common educational goals.
Represent Fuel OKC as a Thought Leader: Serve as a key representative for Fuel OKC in external meetings, public forums, and advocacy initiatives. Advocate for the organization’s mission and goals, fostering public support and strengthening relationships with local and national leaders in the education sector.
Drive Accountability and Impact: Oversee and manage the tracking of “quality seats” in Oklahoma City, ensuring that the organization’s goals are met. Develop and implement metrics for assessing school quality, student success, and operational performance. Continuously analyze progress and make strategic adjustments as necessary to meet targets and deliver results.
Monitor and Evaluate Education Trends and Policy: Stay informed of local, state, and national trends in public education, particularly in areas of school performance, educational equity, and policy reform. Use this knowledge to adapt strategies, inform decision-making, and position Fuel OKC as a leader in the field of educational excellence.
Lead Organizational Growth and Internal Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the senior leadership team to align Fuel OKC’s organizational strategy with on-the-ground needs and opportunities. Ensure that internal systems, processes, and teams are structured to effectively support the mission of increasing access to high-quality schools across Oklahoma City.
Champion Data-Driven Decision Making: Leverage data and insights to inform all aspects of strategy development, execution, and evaluation. Ensure that data collection, analysis, and reporting are embedded in all workstreams and decision-making processes, ensuring that Fuel OKC remains agile and responsive to shifting needs.
Ensure Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement: Manage the operational aspects of the DQS function, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently, budgets are adhered to, and timelines are met. Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement within the organization, driving innovation and excellence at every level of operation.
Other Duties as Assigned: As the Director of Quality Schools, perform additional duties and initiatives that may arise based on the evolving needs of the organization or the Oklahoma City educational landscape.
Minimum Qualifications

Proven Leadership in Education: Significant experience in the education sector, particularly in charter schools. A deep understanding of the dynamics of school operations, including governance, policy, and best practices for student success.
Strategic Thinking & Execution: Expertise in developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies that drive large-scale impact. Ability to think critically and make data-driven decisions to increase the number of students attending quality schools in Oklahoma City.
Advanced Relationship Building and Stakeholder Engagement: High emotional intelligence (EQ) and an ability to build and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders, including school leaders, board members, community partners, and policymakers. Experience navigating complex organizational and political landscapes.
Results-Oriented and Data-Driven: Strong analytical skills with the ability to track and report on key performance indicators related to quality schools and student outcomes. Proven ability to use data to inform decision-making, optimize processes, and achieve long-term organizational goals.
Excellent Communication & Advocacy Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate the organization’s vision, influence key stakeholders, and represent the organization effectively in both public and private forums.
Experience with School Systems & Best Practices: Strong preference for candidates with a robust knowledge of K-12 public education, including understanding the challenges and opportunities facing schools in Oklahoma City. Expertise in school quality, governance, and school improvement practices is a significant asset.
Adaptability & Growth Mindset: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, where flexibility and the capacity to adapt to shifting priorities and challenges are critical. A growth-oriented mindset with a passion for continuous learning and improvement.
Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel within Oklahoma City and occasionally nationally for conferences, stakeholder meetings, and other organizational needs. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain appropriate auto insurance.

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package is included.
